Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) on Wednesday announced the 16-man squad for the upcoming two-Test series against visitors Sri Lanka, as the decided to drop Tendai Chatara and Tinashe Panyangara, who are unfit at present to make to the squad.
Meanwhile, Chris Mpofu, along with rookie seamer Carl Mumba have got a call into the side, while Mpofu earns his recall back to the Zimbabwe Test side after almost five years. Also, Tarisai Musakanda was one of the uncapped picks in the squad, as Musakanda, along with Mumba have represented Zimbabwe A against Pakistan A in October 2016.
Interestingly, veteran batsman Vusi Sibanda saw himself dropping out of the squad, after failing to put on some good score during the series vs Pakistan A.
With India, Pakistan, West Indies, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, England and New Zealand being involved in cricketing action for past few days, Tests in particular, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe were somewhat left behind.
The two teams will look to make up for it when they take on each other in a two-Test series in Zimbabwe starting October 29 at Harare. As has been the case for past some time, both the Tests will be played in the Zimbabwean capital of Harare, which means that Bulawayo will once again miss out on cricketing action.
The first Test will be played between October 29 and November 2 while the second Test will be played at the same venue between November 6 and November 10.
Zimbabwe Test squad vs SL: Graeme Cremer, Tino Mawoyo, Hamilton Masakadza, Craig Ervine, Sean Williams, Regis Chakabva, Peter Moor, Donald Tiripano, Chris Mpofu, Taurai Muzarabani, Michael Chinouya, Brian Chari, Sikandar Raza, Malcolm Waller, Carl Mumba, Tarisai Musakanda.
