Zahira College and D.S. Senanayake College are set to face off in their Annual Rugby Encounter for the R.I.T. Alles Memorial Challenge Trophy on Saturday, August 24th, at 4:00 p.m. at the Zahira College grounds. The main event will be preceded by junior matches starting at 1:00 p.m.
The R.I.T. Alles Memorial Challenge Trophy Rugby encounter, established in 2018, honors the enduring legacy of Ralph Ignatius Thomas Alles, affectionately known as “Alles Sir.” A revered figure in Sri Lankan education, Alles Sir’s influence spanned generations, shaping the lives of countless students.
Alles Sir founded D.S. Senanayake College in 1967, where he introduced rugby in 1974, and his vision and leadership fostered a culture of excellence at the school. Later, as Director of Studies at Zahira College from 1983 to 1985, Alles Sir continued to embody his commitment to inclusivity and personal growth, leaving a lasting impact on the Zahira community.
The R.I.T. Alles Memorial Challenge Trophy goes beyond being just a rugby match. It strengthens the bond between the two schools, honors the memory of Alles Sir, and serves as a powerful example of collaboration and unity despite differences. By engaging in friendly competition, Zahira College and D.S. Senanayake College pay tribute to a respected educator and highlight rugby’s role in fostering camaraderie and mutual respect.
