Zahira College win Super 16 on home soil

The Zahira Super 16 soccer 7’s kicked off on a rainy day in Colombo (Zahira College ground)where conditions were soggy underfoot, Sixteen teams were present  and they were divided in to 4 groups of 4 which went on to compete in Cup, Shield, Plate, Bowl segments

In the Cup semi finals the hosts Zahira College beat St. Joseph’s College with a last gasp goal while St.Benedict’s College got passed Lumbini College Colombo in a penalty shootout.

The Plate final saw Maris Stella College Negombo take on Nalanda College Colombo. Maris Stella Won the Plate champion by beating Nalanda College in penalty shoot out after the game saw no goals in regulation time.

The Shield final was contested between Zahira College Mawanella and De Mazenod College Kandana. Zahira College Mawanella came out triumphant as they scored twice in the penalty shootout.

The Bowl final was played between Royal College Colombo and Isipathana College Colombo. Royal College secured the Bowl with a win over Isipathana College. The game was decided in a penalty shootout.

Lumbini College managed to secure the 3rd place in the tournament as they won the penalty shootout against St. Joseph’s College.

The all- important Cup final saw host Zahira College take on St. Benedicts College. Host Zahira College played good attacking football as they were backed by the home support. The hosts got the lead in the second half and held on to win the cup in their own back yard.
