The three-match Youth Test series between Sri Lanka U19s and South Africa U19s ended in a stalemate today with the third game ending in a tame draw at the Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium.
After conceding a 33-run lead at the end of day two, Sri Lanka U19s failed to make a significant change to the outcome of the game as the visitors made a lackluster 201 for 4 in 81 overs on the final day.
Day 1 Report – Daniel and Jayawickrama restrict South Africa U19s to 295
The opening pair of Ricardo Vasconcelos and Joshua Van Heerden once again put up a sturdy stand of 81 runs before the former was castled by left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama for 48. One-drop batsman Jesse Christensen made 18 before becoming Jayawickrama’s 2nd victim.
Van Heerden registered his fifth 40+ score in the current tour as he mustered a classical 78 off 188 deliveries before being edged out by Jehan Daniel. The St. Sebastian’s College left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama took his 6th wicket of the match when Raynard Van Tonder was struck plumb in front just a few overs before the stumps were drawn.
Day 2 Report – Boyagoda marooned on 79; South Africa U19s take control
Earlier in the match, the visiting Proteas’ made 295 for 8 declared in their first innings while the home team replied with 262.
The first two Youth Test matches played at P. Sara Oval grounds and Welegedara stadium were also drawn.
Both teams will now travel back to Colombo for the three-match Youth ODI series which starts on 9th July at P. Sara oval.
