Sri Lanka ‘A’ compiled a massive score of 449 for the 1st innings. Lahiru Thirimanne’s century stands with youngsters Asalanka and Ashan were the day’s highlights. Thirimanne also went onto score 168, reminding the selectors that his days are not yet over.

Lahiru Thirimanne and Charith Asalanka resumed the Sri Lanka ‘A’ 1st innings on day 2. The duo added 131 more runs to the total before the youngster, Charith Asalanka was unfortunately run out on 90 after lunch. The couple had put on a massive partnership of 156 runs for the 5th wicket when Asalanka fell short of a very well-made hundred by 10 runs.

On the other end former national cap Lahiru Thirimanne scored a steady century, helping the tourists go past 300. After the loss of Asalanka, another youngster Shammu Ashan partnered with Thirimanne and accumulated the second century stand of the inning for Sri Lanka ‘A’. Shammu Ashan who faired really well in his first outing with the Sri Lanka ‘A’ scoring 70 out of the 119 runs he compiled together with Thirimanne for the 6th wicket.

No. 8 batsman, fast bowler Nisala Tharaka also contributed with 20 runs before he was caught off a Khaled Ahmed delivery. Lahiru Thirimanne who was on 168, eyeing a double century, was out in the very next ball (131.1). Nazmul Islam was Thirimanne’s wicket-taker and incidentally it was the first wicket taken by a spinner in this match.

Soon after Thirimanne was out, the Sri Lankan skipper Karunaratne opted to declare the inning. Sri Lanka had scored a mammoth 449 for the loss 8 wickets when they thought enough.

Khaled Ahmed who took just 1 wicket today was the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh ‘A’. He had taken 3 of the 4 wickets to fall yesterday. Ahmed’s new-ball partner, Abu Hider contributed with 2 scalps.

National Test cap Soumya Sarkar and Shadman Islam opened the inning for the hosts. Sarkar scored a quick-fire 21 in just 17 balls before being bowled by a Nisala Tharaka delivery. Sri Lanka ‘A’ didn’t wait too long to strike again as all-rounder Charith Asalanka bowled Shadman Islam with one of his handy off-spinners. Islam had scored just 1 run when he got out and had faced 25 balls.

At close of the day’s play Bangladesh ‘A’ were on 44 for 2 with skipper, 22-year old Mosaddek Hossain (8) and veteran Tushar Imran (12) remaining unbeaten.
