Harshana Tillakaratne of Maliyadeva College Kurunegala won the Gold Medal in the under 11 open event in the World Schools Chess Championship held in Brazil recently.
Young Tillakaratne was unbeaten in his category and it was a great achievement as 75 players from 16 countries participated here.
Pallie Esha Mishela of St. Paul’s Girls School Colombo won the third place in the under 7 girl’s event.
I.M.T.S. Gunawardene (Maliyadeva Girl’s College Kurunegala) won the 4th place in the under 7 girl’s and Sashmitha Kotuwella (Nalanda College Colombo) won the 9th place in under 7 open event.
Nethmi Nirasha Gamage (Asian Grammar School) won 6th place in the under 13 girl’s event and Sasith Nipun Piyumantha (Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda) won the 5th place in the under 13 open event.
P. Hasitha Herath (St. Sylvester’s College Kandy) won the 12th place in the under 15 open event and C.M. Kasun Wimalasuriya (Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda) won the 9th place in the under 17 open event.
