The third day of the World Junior Athletics Championship took place last night (29th) and early this morning (30th).
During this day, three athletes representing Sri Lanka competed, and it is a significant accomplishment that they managed to stand out through their performances.
Men’s 200m
In the men’s 200 meters event, Malith Thamel and Indusara Vidushan competed in the preliminary rounds. Malith participated in the fourth preliminary heat and finished in second place with a time of 21.23 seconds, qualifying for the semifinals.
Meanwhile, Indusara competed in the 8th preliminary heat and finished in sixth place with a time of 21.56 seconds. Although he had not initially qualified for the semifinals, his race time eventually earned him a spot in the semifinals.
The semifinals for this event took place early this morning. In the first semifinal, Malith finished in 8th place with a time of 21.93 seconds, while Indusara, who participated in the second semifinal, secured 7th place, also with a time of 21.93 seconds.
As both athletes recorded the same time in the semifinals, they were placed 22nd overall among all the competitors in the event.
Men’s 110m Hurdles
Sandun Kosala, who represented the country in the 7th heat of the preliminary round in this event, achieved his personal best with a timing of 14.04 seconds. He secured 5th place in his heat; among the 66 athletes who participated in the event, Sandun ranked 37th overall.
