A half century for Shashikala Siriwardene and a five-wicket haul for Inoka Ranaweera helped Navy SC overcome a strong Army SC (A) team in match week 6 (11th & 17th April) of the ongoing Women’s Inter-Club Division I 50-over Cricket Tournament.
Army SC (A) vs Navy SC at Army Grounds, Dombagoda
It was a must win game for the defending champions Navy, if they had any hopes of retaining their title. Army on the other hand, were riding high, after a hard-fought win against Air Force (A), a win here all but assuring them the title. It wasn’t to be however, as the experienced heads from Navy came to the fore when they were needed the most.
The visitors battled to 181 in their 50 overs, thanks to a timely half-century from Siriwardene and a cameo from Sathya Sandeepani down the order, the pair putting on 73 for the 5th wicket.

With the win, Navy surged past both Army SC and Air Force SC to climb to the top of the table with just one more game to go.
