The WISS Tournament is organized by the past pupils of the Western Province Institute of Sports Science who are currently working as Practical Training Instructors of Sports in schools within the Western Province.
Schools from Kalutara, Gampaha and Colombo Districts will participate in this tournament. The main objective of this tournament is to see the standard of players who are trained by the past pupils of the WISS Academy (Western province Institute of Sports Science). This is also an opportunity for the coaches to prove themselves so that the Sports Ministry will be able to recruit them as new instructors.
To participate in this tournament, schools need to have been coached by a WISS graduate for at least 3 months prior to sending in applications for the even. Participants who are placed 1st and 2nd will qualify for the provincial events to be held later. Volleyball, Football and Netball tournaments along with Athletics meets are scheduled to take place during the course of the next month. Events are open to students in the Under 14 and under 16 age categories.
The first set of events is scheduled to begin at the Horana Srpali Grounds on the 18th of October.
