Sumangalians hold their nerve to win a thriller.

Put into bat first Sri Sumangala were bowled out cheaply for 127 runs, thanks to some excellent bowling by Sasanka Nirmal who demolished the batting line up with figures of 7/27. Gayasha and Prabash fought hard with determination to score 33 & 28 respectively.

After a bad batting display the Sumangalians came back strongly with the ball, led by Vishva Kumara bagging five wickets with support coming from Shamal Jayawardena picking up 2 wickets. The game looked evenly poised by afternoon as the boys from Rathgama showed some fight in the second innings, but fell short of just eight runs. Sasanka Nirmal once again stood up with the ball in the 3rd innings troubling the top order and ending with match figures of 9/38.

Dharmasoka College holds Nalanda College to a draw

Nalanda College travelled to Balapitiya for their Second round match against Dharmasoka. Sent in to bat first Nalanda College posted a competitive score of 173 with Chanul Athukorala scoring almost half of his team’s runs with a gusty 83 not out. Maneesha Rashmika ripped through the Nalanda batting line up with figures of 7/37.

Dharmasoka after a decent bowling performance took up the challenge with the bat, but kept loosing wickets as the Nalanda bowlers comprising Sajitha, Nadil & Kushmitha bagging two wickets each. The Sokians held their nerve to draw the match loosing 9 wickets at the end.

St. Sebastian’s College beat St. Josephs College

St. Sebastian’s college dominated the boys from Darley road as they clinched a very comfortable 1st innings win. Opting to bat first the Josephians only managed to post 132 on the board with Shevon Daniel showing some class with the bat making 62 and Julian Fernandopulle chipping in with 22. Yeshan Avishka was impressive with the ball ending with figures of 5/28.

The Josephians tried to put some pressure on the Sebastianite batsman but some steady batting by Sanesh Fernando making an unbeaten 45 helped the boys from Moratuwa to go pass the St Joseph’s first innings score loosing just 6 wickets in the process. Yevin Athurokala was the only Josephian bowler who was able to cause some trouble to the St Sebastian’s batsman with figures of 2/25.
