The Singer Schools ‘U17 Division 01’ second round cricket tournament ended today (6th August) with wins for Dharmaraja, St. Thomas’ and Nalanda colleges.
St. Thomas’ College, Matara vs Dharmaraja College, Kandy
At the Matara Uyanwaththa stadium, Dharmaraja College Kandy won the toss and invited the home team to bat first in a 28 over match per side. Batting first St. Thomas’ College Matara managed to score 141 runs for the loss of 07 wickets in the allotted 28 over’s. Hasura Anuranga was the highest scorer with 35 runs and Abeetha Herath was the pick with the ball taking 2 wickets for 27 runs.
Chasing down the target of 142, Dharmaraja college got there in 24.4 over’s. Dulaj Bandara top scored with 66 runs while Janith Gunathunga scored 21 runs. Sathira Theekashana took 2 wickets for 22 runs. His effort was not enough for the home team as Dharmaraja College won the game by 5 wickets.

This was an important match for both teams when they met in the second round of the Singer Schools U17 Division 01 group ‘Q’ match, at the Ananda College grounds, Maradana.
The home team won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first. St. Thomas’ took most of the opportunity and finished the innings in style by scoring 286 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 50 overs. Umayanga Suwaris scored a brilliant 59 runs while Kishan Munasinghe and Deon Fernando scored 46 and 34 runs respectively. Atheesha Perera picked up 3 wickets for 51 runs.
Chasing down a big total, Ananda College ended up well short of the target to be bowled out for 205 in 42.3 overs. A half century of 57 runs by Senera Kudagama and 49 runs by Kanishka Ranthilakage’s was not enough for the home team as Shamilka Wickramathilake demolished the Ananda Batting line up by taking 5 wickets for 31 runs. St. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia won the match by 81 runs.

It was too easy for Nalanda College Colombo when they met Sri Sumangala College Panadura in the Singer Schools U17 Division 01 group ‘P’ second round match played at the Nalanda College Grounds.
Nalanda College opted to bat first after winning the toss on home conditions and put a huge score on the board by scoring 312 runs for the loss of 07 wickets in 50 over’s.
It was a magnificent performance by the batsman from Nalanda College as they went on to make 4 half centuries in the innings. Lakshan Kashyapa 76 runs, Avishka Perera 67 runs, Jayodh Caldera 63 runs and Raveen De Silva unbeaten on 51 runs. Tharana De Silva took 2 wickets for 74 runs and Harshana Fernando chipped in with 3 wickets for 64 runs.
Chasing down a mammoth target, Sri Sumanagala College Panadura were bowled out for 130 runs in 32.3 overs. Harshana Fernando proved his all round ability this time with the bat to score 30 runs. Rashna Dissanayake 2 for 05, Moksha Sankalpa 2 for 06 and Raveen De Silva 2 for 02 were outstanding with the ball. Nalanda College won the match comprehensively by 182 runs.
