Windies have brought in Carlos Brathwaite and Sheldon Cottrell and handed a maiden call-up to John Campbell for the first two ODIs against England due to the injuries to opener Evin Lewis, as well as all-rounders Keemo Paul and Rovman Powell.
Campbell, 25, made his Test debut in the recently concluded Test series against England, scoring 176 runs at an average of 35.2 in the three matches.

Windies’ T20I skipper Brathwaite returns to the ODI fold after missing out on the India series last November, and the subsequent one in Bangladesh. The all-rounder though made it to the squad in Bangladesh but hasn’t played a 50-overs game for the Windies since the ICC World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe in March 2018.
Meanwhile, pacer bowler Cottrell has appeared in two Tests, six ODIs and 10 T20Is for Windies. He last played a one-dayer for the country in the home series against Bangladesh in July 2018.
“With our squad suffering from a few players with injuries even before a ball is bowled, an opportunity presents itself for other players to make a claim for ICC Cricket World Cup spots. After a good showing as an opener in the Test matches, John Campbell – a fearless and attacking opening batter – will replace Evin Lewis who had to be withdrawn from the squad with a groin injury,” said Chairman of Selectors, Courtney Browne.

“Carlos Brathwaite who last played in the ICC World Cup qualifiers and who was a replacement in the last ODI series in Bangladesh will also join the squad along with Sheldon Cottrell who last played against Bangladesh last year in the Caribbean. They will replace Rovman Powell and Keemo Paul who are also both sidelined with injuries. The panel take this opportunity to wish the injured players a speedy recovery and to wish the team success in the upcoming ODIs,” he concluded.
The five-match series begins in Barbados on Wednesday (February 20) and the second game will be played at the same venue on Friday (February 22).
