As the defending FA Cup Champions, Colombo FC begin their title defense in the Last 32 Round against Red Star SC, Mohamed Ramees finds himself in a dilemma.
Former Blue Star captain Ramees, now playing for Colombo FC as a centre back is also the coach of Division I side Red Star who were drawn first to play Colombo FC in the Cargills Food City FA Cup.
Ramees has been coaching Red Star for a few years; he led them to a Last 32 Round in last year’s championship while this year, starting their campaign from the 5th round they defeated Barberiyans SC 2-0 and in the 6th Round came from 2 goals down to win 4-3 against SLTB SC.
“It is a very, very tough position for me. I have been coaching Red Star for quite some time but my obligation is to play for Colombo FC and give my best as we look to defend the FA Cup,” Ramees added.
It will be interesting to see how his home town fans receive him, as Red Star SC host the FA Cup Last 32 Round match on the 4th of May at the Vernon Fernando Stadium, Kalutara which is also the home ground of Blue Star SC, Ramees’ former club where he played for 17 years.
