The Western Province Women and Men emerged victorious at the Inter-Provincial Rugby 7’s Governor’s Cup Played Today (18th Nov) at Racecourse Grounds.
Nine teams from the nine Provinces took part as they went head-on from 8 a.m., seeking to display dominance over their opponents.

The Bowl was won by the Southern for the Women while the Northern Province secured the title for the Men.

Sabaragamuwa Province won the Plate segment in the Women’s segment, while North Western Province won the Men’s segment.

In the cup Final, it was Central Province taking on the Western Province as the two power-house provinces went head-on in both the Men’s and Women’s segments.
Women’s Cup Final
Western Province were simply unstoppable as first speedster Ishani Perera opened the scoring with a couple of tries on the far touchline, putting Western Province in charge going into lemons, leading 24-00.
It was more of the same in the second half for Western Province as they pummeled over the Central Province Women, thanks to a great show by Theekshana Liyanage.
She ended with two tries as the Western Province ended in commanding fashion, conceding no points. The final score read 38-00.
Men’s Cup Final
The Men’s final was a more competitive, balanced game, as both teams looked equally strong coming into the game.
Western Province opened the scoring off the game’s very first play, but Central did not capitulate, holding on. On the stroke of half time, Central Province scored taking things even into the break, 7-points all.
It was Central Province who scored first in the second half as they grabbed a surprise lead after staying in the game.
With time running out on the Westerners, Aaron Joshua stepped up as the young winger put on a dazzling turn of pace following a sublime double step, bamboozling the on-rushing defender to score and help Western Province strike back.
Moments later, a third try was scored by the Westerners as they downed Central Province in a gripping final to take home the double, winning the Men’s and Women’s segments.
