The West Indies women’s cricket team showed superiority over-powering the Sri Lankan women for the 3rd time in a row taking the 5 -match T20 series 3-0
The visiting women were put into bat by Shashikla Siriwardena who won the toss, but Stephanie Taylor wreaked havoc clobbering 75 to end the West Indies innings on a staggering 145 which Sri Lanka was always going to find hard to chase.
Deandra Dotting and Kycia Knight opened the batting putting on 34 for the first wicket before Chamini Senewirathne removed Knight for 11. Kyshona Knight replaced her and in the 8th over was lbw to Captain Shashikala Siriwardane.
The lionesses had no chance to stop the runs from the free-flowing Caribbean batswomen. Taylor’s merciless vigil was finally ended by Shashikala Siriwardane in the 10th over. Despite the superior fielding routine of the Sri Lankan lasses, Windies got to a mammoth 84 runs within 12 overs.
After the dismissal of Taylor, Captain Merissa Aguilerria thundered to a 21 runs before falling victim to the ever-present Eshani Kaushalya Lokusooriya in the last over. Eshani removed the new batswoman Shemaine Campbelle before the West Indian innings closed.
The host Sri Lanka in their innings managed to score 111 runs before they were dismissed by the aggressive Windies in 19.2 overs. Opening batswoman Chamari could not achieve a single run as S. Selman got the better of her in the very 1st over. Shakera Selman was brilliant to defeat the new batswoman Deepika Rasangika in the 6th over for 09 runs.
Left arm medium pace bowler, S. Daley bowled a devastating spell to beat 5 Sri Lankan lasses; Prasadhini Weerakkody, Ama Kanchana, Eshani Lokusooriya, Sripali Weerakkody and Dilani Manodara. In the 15th over Chamani Polgampola was scalped by T. Smartt to a brilliant catch by S. Selman stopped on the way to a superb 6.
Within 17 overs, Sri Lankan had notched up 10 boundaries. Right hand batswoman, Captain Shashikala Siriwardane leading from the front scored 46 before succumbing to S. Taylor in the 18th over.
With the dismissal of captain Shashikala, visitors lost their way and folded meekly for 111 losing the match by 34 runs.
