Rain played a significant role as only 24.5 overs were bowled on day three of the first Youth Test between Sri Lanka U19s and West Indies U19s at Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium in Dambulla.
The visitors began the third day at 27/1 following a massive first-innings total posted by the home team on day two. The two Vishwas, Vishwa Rajapaksa and Vishwa Lahiru, combined forces to dismiss Joshua Dorne (6) when Vishwa Rajapaksa held on to a catch off the left-arm spinner Vishwa Lahiru in the very first over of the day.
Stephen Pascal became Lahiru’s second victim, being trapped LBW for 11, which reduced their score to 50/3. However, the Windies found some resistance in their middle-order batsmen, Jordan Johnson and Steve Wedderburn. This pair added an unbroken 69 runs for the fourth wicket before rain washed out the remainder of the day.
Johnson displayed positive intent in his batting and reached his fifty, remaining not out on 54 off just 67 deliveries, while Wedderburn looked solid and contributed 28 runs. Ultimately, the umpires made the final call to call off play due to heavy rain.
