Dinura Kalupahana blasted an unbeaten 150 as Sri Lanka U19s dominated day two of the first Youth Test against West Indies U19s at Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium in Dambulla.

The hosts resumed the second day at 163/3 after a rain-hampered opening day, during which only 38 overs were bowled. Right-arm pacer Isai Thorne provided the Windies with the perfect start, dismissing the overnight batter Ravishan Nethsara (31) in the very first over. Tarrique Edward’s off-spin created problems for Sri Lanka as Sharujan Shanmuganathan (17) and Vishwa Rajapaksa (9) departed, reducing them to 215/6.

Malsha Tharupathi partnered with the other overnight batter Dinura Kalupahana in the middle. The duo forged an impressive 102-run partnership for the 7th wicket, pushing the islanders past the 300-run mark. Part-time bowler Joshua Dorne changed the fortunes for the visitors by dismissing Tharupathi for 65 runs. His aggressive innings came off just 58 balls, featuring 8 fours and 2 sixes.

Vihas Thewmika, who came next, played a pivotal role in building the highest partnership of the innings, adding 114 runs with Kalupahana for the 8th wicket. During that partnership, the latter achieved his maiden hundred in Sri Lanka U19 colors.

Sri Lanka U19s declared on a massive 432/8 after dismissing Thewmika for 35, while the centurion remained not out, delivering a marathon knock of 150 off 229 balls, which included 16 fours and 2 sixes. On the bowling front, Tarrique Edward was the most successful bowler for the tourists, claiming 3/99. Apart from him, Isai Thorne and Nathan Sealy each captured a couple of wickets.
