Wesley College ran in 6 tries in a resounding 36-10 win over Science College to kick start week 4 of the schools rugby league season.
Mursheed Zubair of Wesley kicked the game off in sunny and humid conditions, mint for running rugby.
Wesley dominated from the onset but failed to add the finishing touch as two visits to the Science red zone went unpunished.
The lads from Mount Lavinia failed to clear their lines on the third time of asking as the Double Blue back trio weaved their magic to send blind side winger G.E Harshana touched down in the far corner.
Minutes later, fellow winger Dineru Ranaweera dotted down in the near corner following a lung busting run by prop forward Vimukthi. His run paved the way and quick front foot ball meant the winger had space with the Science defence in tatters. Scrum half Avishka Lee failed with both conversions making it a ten-point game. (WC 10-00 SC)
With the lads from Mount Lavinia on the back foot, the Les Blues continued to press but butter fingers meant the lead was not extended further.
Once the ball began to stick, Wesley turned on the razzle dazzle for their third try as the three quarters worked the line off a scrum as winger Harshana crashed over for his second of the evening. This time Avishka was successful as he added the extras adjacent to the left upright. (WC 17-00 SC)
Unsettled Science finally began to string some phases together, putting the Wesley defence under pressure. The pressure yielded a penalty as fullback H. Samararathna slotted over from 25 meters out from in front of the uprights. (WC 17-03 SC)
Avishka Lee did not have his kicking boots on for the game as he missed a sitter from beside the right upright as Science hooker Thathsara saw yellow for a late charge inside his own 22.
Wesley’s counter attack from the resulting 22 drop out was jaw dropping as their back line brought on the flair as Avantha Lee added the finishing touch. Brother Avishka slotted over with ease from under the post to take on a resounding 19 point lead into the break.

The Les Blues punished complacent Science College with another try of their own putting the game to bed. An eight nine move off the scrum saw flanker Imesh Aponsu crash over. Avishka failed to add the extras. (WC 29-03 SC)
Even though Wesley had the initiative, discipline lacked as lock forward Zain Dole and try scorer Imesh Aponsu saw yellow handing Science with a chance for some respite.
The numerical advantage did not assist Science in anyway as Avantha Lee scored as some quick thinking and decision making helped the center crash dive over beside the upright. Brother Avishka converted with ease. (WC 36-03 SC)
Wesley tight head prop Vimukthi saw yellow for illegal binding at the scrum as the Les Blues forward pack capitulated under the Science pressure in the final embers of the game.
