Wesley College got the better of the Peterites this evening at Longdon Place. The final score stood as 26(4T, 3C) points to 14 (1T, 3P) in favour of the double blues. With this victory Wesley College earned an important bonus point to keep their title hopes alive. At half time it was 19 points to 06 in favour of the double blues.
Mursheed Zubair got things underway under overcast conditions but it was the visitors who dominated early proceeding from the kick off. St.Peter’s used their speedy back line to good effect in the early passages of play. Peterites had more possession with the ball but they were unable to add the finishing touches for these promising moves. The Peterites went on to draw first blood in the 15th minute of the game when Stephan Sivaraj bisected the uprights with an easy penalty. (WC 00-03 SPC)
Five minutes later the double blues took the lead after continuous phrases of attacking moves and the forwards gaining much needed yards and Avishka Lee changed the direction of the attack to the blind side for Imesh Aponsu to touch down the first try of the match. Avishka missed the conversion but Referee Irshad Cader gave him another opportunity as the Peterites made an early charge towards the conversion kick of Avishka. Second time he made a perfect kick which bisected the uprights. (WC 07-03 SPC)

Wesley College conceded a few penalties after their try but the Peterites were unable to capitalize on the opportunities which they received, Wesley no 08 Daiyan Sabar was sent to sin bin for a high tackle. Peterite skipper Diyath Fernando opted for the penalty kick and Sivaraj didn’t disappoint his skipper as he reduced the deficit towards only one point. (WC 07-06 SPC)
Wesley College scored two back to back tries before the half time break, First try was initialed by the Wesley forwards as they attacked the Peterite defence regularly and then Avishka overpowered himself over his counterpart Ravin Fernando to score. Avishka couldn’t convert his own try. The try of the game was then scored by Avishka again when Vimuthi Gamage made a promising move forward and then offloaded it to Avishka to score his second try. Avishka was untouched by the Peterite defence as his speed and silky steps destroyed the Petes. This time around Avishka made no mistakes as he converted his own try. (WC 19-06 SPC)

Sivaraj got things under way in the second half but the Peterites were down 14 when Bilal Hilmy received a yellow card from Referee Cader for not releasing the tackler but the Peterites defended excellently as Wesley couldn’t gain any points with the numerical advantage they had for 10 minutes.
Peterites were determined to score to reduce the gap and they finally did it when Diyath Fernando and Ravin Fernando combined perfectly with their smooth passes to let Bilal Hilmy score an easy try in the left corner. Sivaraj was not successful this with his kick. Soon after the try Peterites again received a penalty under the post as the Wesley line was deemed offside by Referee Cader. Sivaraj increased his points tally for this season with an easy kick to bring this game towards a nail-biting finish. (WC 19-14 SPC)
Injuries to Angelo Mendis and Stephan Sivaraj were big blows to the Peterite outfit but yellow card for the Wesley prop forward Shamail Amit gave them good opportunity to clinch the game but handling errors regularly and missed chances gave Wesley victory. Wesley College ended the game with an important bonus point try which was scored by Imesh Aponsu. Avishka converted this try with ease and to clinch their 6th victory of this season. (WC 26-14 SPC)
