Wesley and St Sebastians into Kotmale Chox T20 final

Wesley College Colombo and St Sebastian’s College Moratuwa powered their way in to the Kotmale Chox Schools U19 T20 final at Bloomfield grounds yesterday.

In the first semi- final an all Moratuwa affair with St Sebastians taking Prince of Wales got off ground at the Bloomfield in the morning.  Sebastians taking first lease of the wicket put up a competitive 146 for 6 wickets in their 20 overs   The batting was headed by Anuk Fernando 36, Sangeeth Cooray 33 and Sahan Fernando 32.  Shenal Silva bowled tight (3/24 ) to keep their arch-rivals in check. 

The St Sebastian bowling attack was lethal with  Sangeeth Cooray returning figures of 3/16 and  Visal Senanayake and Kushal Lakshitha chipping in with two each which disabled the  Prince of Wales batting that fell short of the target being all out for 105  in 17 overs. 

St. Sebastian’s College – 146 for 6 in 20 overs (Anuk Fernando 36, Sangeeth Cooray 33, Sahan Fernando 32,  Shenal de Silva 3/24)

Prince of Wales College – 105 all out in 17.1 overs (Ashen Mendis 31, Shanuka Dulaj 16; Sangeeth Cooray 3/16, Kusal Lakthilina 2/28, Visal Senanayake 2/18).


The second match was between St Peters and Wesley where St Peters batting first dished out good fare with Janith Liyanage smashing 99 not out to end with a score of 158/8 in their allotted 20 overs.  Jonathan Canderamanpulle  for Wesley scalped 3 wickets for 20 runs.

In reply Wesley rallied at the tail end of their innings to power themselves into the final of the U 19 inter-school Kotmale Chox T20.  Sachin Jayawardena 37, Sharika Ediriweera 35 and Dinuka Jayasinghe 32 top scored for Wesley while Sahan Nanayakkara returned the excellent bowling figures of 4/17 for the Petes.
