Star-studded Wayamba crushed Kandurata-Uva by 133 wickets to win the inaugural inter-provincial limited over title at the finals worked off at NCC grounds.
After taking the bowlers to the sword in a brilliant batting effort, the bowlers joined the party to restrict Kandurat-Uva for 215 runs, chasing their mammoth total in the title decider. Test cap Nuwan Pradeep claimed five for 46 including the prize wicket of opposing skipper Thilina Kandamby who was launching a perfect assault in a bid to chase down huge total. This was Pradeep’s second five wicket haul in domestic cricket.
Kandamby was ruthless in the finals as he was during the semi-finals against North-East where he scored an unbeaten 113 to chase down 310, making 79 off 71 balls but could not help his side to victory. Kaushal Silva made 60 but the rest of the batting looked ordinary against a well-balanced side.
After Niroshan Dickwella and Farveez Maharoof hit imposing centuries for a huge total in the title decider Jehan Mubarak launched a ruthless attack making 77 off just 44 balls with seven boundaries and four sixes to help Wayamba to a mammoth 348 for the loss of four wickets.
Dickwella, who has been hardly impressive with the bat during the inter-provincial tournament made a blistering 104 off 91 balls with 13 boundaries and shared a 157 runs for the second wicket Maharoof who made a career best 112 off 121 deliveries. Mubarak who joined Maharoof at the fall of Dickwella took the bowlers to the sword with a flurry of hits to the ropes as they added 121 runs for the third wicket in as many as 68 deliveries.
