Australia opener David Warner has received an official reprimand after pleading guilty to a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Sydney ODI against Sri Lanka on Sunday.
Warner was found to have breached Article 2.1.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct (the “Code”) which relates to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match”.
After being given out lbw in the 29th over, the batsman stood his ground before eventually leaving the middle while shaking his head.
After the match was abandoned, Warner admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by the Match Referee, Javagal Srinath, of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees. As such, there was no need for a formal hearing.
The charge had been laid by the on-field umpires Marais Erasmus and Paul Reiffel, third umpire Richard Kettleborough and fourth umpire John Ward.
