Sri Lanka Rugby will host former Australian rugby legend and 1991 Rugby World Cup winner David Campese for a brief stint in the country. He is set to arrive in the country in the coming weeks.

One of the revered personalities in the rugby arena, David Campese is a one-time World Cup winner as well as a Commonwealth 7’s Bronze medal winner who dominated the world stage from 1982 to 1996.

Renown as an explosive backs player, Campese is famed for his ‘goosefoot’ and being able to outrun any opponent at any given time. He held the record as the all-time leading try scorer in rugby union with 64 tries having represented the Wallabies for 101 tests for many years before Daisuke Ohata of Japan and later Bryan Habana of South Africa overtook the record.

The 56-year-old will arrive in the country on the 29th of April and is expected to spend some time with the national fifteens and sevens sides.

Preparations are currently underway in the fifteens format for Sri Lanka ahead of the Asia Division I Rugby Championship that kicks off late May.

The partnership with Sri Lanka Rugby that comes with the Stassen Group will see the veteran spending time with the two national sides; the Sri Lanka men’s XV’s and the women’s sevens.

He is expected to witness the schools’ rugby action in the country which is currently underway as well.

Sri Lanka Rugby also indicates that they intend to have a meet and greet session for the fans to interact with the legend during his stint in Sri Lanka.
