A 12-member team will represent Sri Lanka in the upcoming Asia Rugby Under 18 Division 1 Sevens Tournament 2024, set to take place in Malaysia on the 28th and 29th of September.
Vishenka Silva from St. Peter’s College, the top points and try-scorer of the Dialog Schools Rugby League, has been appointed as the Captain. Thinethra Dodangoda from Isipathana College, part of the 2024 Dialog Schools Rugby Knockouts President’s Trophy-winning team, will serve as Vice-Captain.
Key players like Disas Pathirana from Royal College, Nimantha Sandeepa from Isipathana College, Senuth Dinsara from St. Peter’s College, and Shaakib Zumri from Isipathana College, who stood out during the 2024 season, have been included in the squad.
Shan Althaf, the architect of the Bradby Shield victory for Trinity College, was initially selected but was replaced by Kaizer Lye of Wesley College due to injury.
The team will be coached by seasoned coach Rajeev Perera, and Sri Lanka will compete against teams from Singapore, Malaysia, India, Hong Kong, Thailand, UAE, Chinese Taipei, Brunei, and Saudi Arabia in the 10-team competition.
