West Indies ‘A’ defeat Sri Lanka ‘A’ by 45 runs in the 3rd unofficial ODI and they manage to level the series 1-1 in the game concluded at Trelawny Stadium.
West Indies ‘A’ skipper Jahmar Hamilton won the toss and opted bat first on a sticky surface. The Lankan seamers were on target as left-arm seamer Vimukthi Perera removed Rahkeem Cornwall as the opening wicket. however, the hosts lost wickets at regular intervals and they got bowled out for a modest 152 in 44.1 overs.
28-year old left-arm seamer Vimukthi Perera was the star as he bowled his 9 overs for 25 and took 4 wickets, while two right-arm seamers Lahiru Kumara and Shehan Madushanka chipped in with 2 wickets apiece.
Chasing 153 to clinch the series, the visitors started off losing Sandun Weerakkody for 6 and Roshan Silva for 1. The wickets fell at a canter as all the batters came and went with no answers. Opener Nipun Karunanayake was the only man who showed some stability as he stroked 47 off 113 deliveries to guide the visitors to the 100 mark.
West Indies left-arm seamer Sheldon Cottrell had the last laugh in the game as he destroyed the Lankan batting to a disappointing 107 all out in 38.3 overs. he was ably supported by right-arm seamer Kyle Mayers who grabbed 3 scalps to do the finishing touches for the home team.
Sri Lanka ‘A’ won the Test series and drew the ODIs in a successful campaign in West Indies.
