Ushan Perera wins second consecutive National title

Ushan Perera, won his second consecutive National title for the Texas A&M Lions in the Men’s High Jump event at the NCAA Division II Indoor Men’s Track & Field competition held in Pittsburg, Kansas City.

Perera was the meet favorite to win as defending champion. He decided to start his competition at 2.17m and cleared the bar rather easily securing the top spot right off the gate.

Third place went to Devion Brown of Minnesota State clearling 2.14m. Eli Cosiva hailing from Grand Valley State finished the meet in 2nd place, also clearing 2.14m.

In the 2021 version of the DIV II meet, Perera recorded a 2.26m height. He had a stellar year and it cascaded through to the first half of 2022 as he was able to renew his own Sri Lankan Indoor Men’s High Jump record with a jump of 2.27m.

At the 2022 Lone Star Conference he walked away with the National record and was honored with the Most Outstanding Male Field Athlete in the meet.
