Upsets during the second day of the Polo Nationals

It was an interesting day two of the Water polo Nationals that took place today at the Sugathadasa Stadium with a lot of surprises and upsets.

The first match of the day was played between Nalanda College juniors and S. Thomas’ College juniors and the Thomians won the game convincingly scoring 12 goals to1. J Fernando and S. Jayathileke were the main scorers for STC scoring 3 goals apiece. 

The first match of the men’s category took place between Sri Lanka Police and Royal College and the Royalist’s managed to win the game 11 goals to 7. S Deheragoda and A. Weerasinghe scored 3 goals each for the winners. S. Thomas’ College then took on Sri Lanka Air Force during the next match and the latter won the game by a whopping 14 goals to 5. Skipper Senitha Gunawardene led from the front for the Thomians scoring 3 goals. 

Royal College ‘B’ took on Ananda College in the next junior game and the Anandians recorded an emphatic win over their counterpart scoring  a 12-1 win. D. Hansaka proved to be a stand out performer during the tournament and was also the main goal scorer scoring 5 goals. 

In the first women’s match defending champions Bishops College took on Sri Lanka Navy and the Sailors managed to create an upset beating BC by 10 goals to 8. D. D Dharmadasa was the main scorer for the Navy side scoring 5 goals. The Visakhians then took on last year’s runner up Sri Lanka Air Force during the second game and the former managed to walk away winners scoring 11 goals to 3. Limashi Kosgodage the skipper of the Visakhians showed the way 3 goals. 

During another junior game the Thomians took on their arch rivals Royal and STC won the game 13-7. A. Francis was the main scorer for the winners scoring an astonishing 7 goals during the game which was the highest during the tournament so far. 

S. Thomas’ College senior team then took on Sri Lanka Navy in a tight contest and the Thomians managed to win by a slender one point scoring 8 goals to 7. For the winners Devshan De Mel scored 5 goals while D. S. S Dassanayake scored 5 for Navy.
