The Emerging Sri Lankan Cricket XI failed to defend a modest total of 240 as the University Sports South Africa XI chased down the target with ease losing just 4 wickets in the process.
Winning the toss and batting, the Lankans did not manage a good start as they were pegged back after losing opener Hashan Dumindu in the 2nd over of the game. The Emerging Sri Lankans were able to get starts but did not make use of them as regular wickets held them back.
The Lankan XI scraped their way to 240 as middle order batsman Anuk Fernando managed a timely 53. Rumesh Buddhika missed his half century as he was dismissed for 48. Sanjaya Chathuranga managed an unbeaten 36 coming 6 down to help the Lankans to their total.
Slow left-arm chinaman Thomas Kaber managed 2 for 27 off his allotted 10 overs while right arm medium fast Keith Dudgeon bagged 2 for 29 in 8 overs.
Amila Aponso began the defense in style as he dismissed University Sports South Africa XI opener for a duck in the second over. The University XI were reeling at 8 for the loss of 2 wickets. Zubayr Hamza stepped up for the University XI as he notched up an unbeaten 111 to guide them home with 6 wickets remaining.
Janneman Malan provided good support to Hamza scoring 41 runs while Wihan Lubbe joined the party with 47 as they saw the University XI home with ease.
