The blue-ribbon rugby encounter in Sri Lanka, the prestigious Bradby Shield encounter will come alive for its 75th successive occasion this May, adding flare to the Singer Schools Rugby League that kicked off this weekend.
Played between Trinity College and Royal College, the fixture is one of the most prestigious encounters in the country; The Bradby Shield’s history goes back to 1945 when the then principal of Royal College Mr. E. L. Bradby gifted a shield to the winner of the two-legged series.
Gracing the launch event held for the 75th encounter, Minister of Sports, Harin Fernando, complimented the two schools for the long journey they’ve come in the sport.
“There will be no love lost and I am sure that the best team will come out victorious. Traditions, as the two principals mentioned, is about how you keep your game, your calmness in the game”
Singer Sri Lanka, will come on board for the 75th occasion and has been the encounter’s main sponsor for the past 3 decades.

“We have been sponsoring the Bradby for the last 30 years and I have never seen any encounter better than the Bradby in Sri Lanka all my life” added the Marketing Director of Singer Sri Lanka, Kumar Samarasinghe addressing the event.
This year will be a special occasion for the two schools as this will be 75th edition of the encounter. In lieu of the memorable occasion, the organizers unveiled a special logo for the Bradby Shield encounter.

“We unveiled a logo in celebration with the 75th encounter between the two schools as it will stand as a brand for the years to come and also we have launched a coin that will be used for the coin toss at the 75th edition” added Harith Jayasuriya, chairman of the Royal College Match Organizing committee.
Furthermore, a commemorative stamp was issued to mark the 75 years and was presented by the organizers to Minister Fernando.
Meanwhile other sponsors for the 75th Bradby and the sponsors for Royal rugby for the year 2019 were also recognized.

The two legs will be played on the 11th and 25th of May in Pallekelle and at the Royal College Sports Complex respectively.
