A match bag of 10 wickets for 97 runs to Raveen Sayer helped Trinity College, Kandy record a comprehensive 9-wicket victory against St.Anthony’s College, Wattala at Asgiriya during the weekend.
Trinity College, after winning the toss invited the opposition to bat first. The visitors were bowled out for 96 runs in 32 overs. Sawan Prabash was the only top scorer for the team from Wattala. Off-spinner Raveen Sayer who was the pick of the bowlers bagged 5 wickets for 31 runs. In reply to the 96 made by the visitors, Trinity College stepped into a flying start and put up a decent score of 161 for 6 wickets and declared their 1st innings with a lead of 65 runs. Raveen Sayer stroked an aggressive 38 runs while Gihan Sampath of St.Anthony’s College claimed 3 wickets.
Making the home team score 57 runs to their win, St. Anthonys College, Wattala was again bowled out for 122 runs in their 2nd innings. Harsha Tharaka scored 36 runs. Once again, Raveen Sayer was on fire as he recorded another 5-wicket haul for 66 runs. In pursuit of a comfortable target, Trinity College lost only one wicket; that of Dilan Jayalath. Nushan Weerasinghe was not out on 27 when Trinity won the game in style.

Meanwhile, in retrospect of Trinity’s first game of the season; splendid off break bowling of Raveen Sayer and a classy ton by Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan assisted Trinity College to conclude their first match resulting to another convincing outright victory against St. Aloysius College, Galle. It was played at the same venue on 14th and 15th September.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, St.Aloysius College made 167 all out in 55.5 overs. Ravindu Sanjana scored 66 runs for the visitors. Three wickets each were shared between the speedster, Lahiru Kumara and left-arm spinner, Duivindu Thilakarathne. Raveen Sayer grabbed 2 for 58. In return, Trinity College, Kandy put up a massive score of 254 for 8 wickets before declaring their 1st innings. Left-hander Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan made a scintillating knock of 104 runs while opener Dilan Jayalath scored 47. Sajith Sankalpa of St.Aloysius College bagged 6 wickets out of the 8 fallen.
Being trailed by 87 runs, St. Aloysius College was unable to make a commanding score as they anticipated in their 2nd innings. Trinity bowlers bogged down the oppositions for just 61 runs resulting the home team to win their first game by an innings and 26 runs. Raveen Sayer had a great come back in the 2nd innings claiming 4 wickets for 27 runs.
