The under 18 school sevens tournament is scheduled to take place on the 7th and 8th of August at the Race Course International Stadium.
Redemption for Science after Madumadawa hat-trick
A hat-trick of tries by Hashan Madumadawa helped Science College win the Schools Cup title…
This tournament will be the second junior rugby tournament following the Under 12’s tournament which was worked off on the 1st and 2nd of August.
27 Schools are scheduled to participate in the tournament and will undoubtedly be a spectacle for the supporters around the world.
This will also be a tournament in which the selectors get to have a look at the under 18 lads who will be eligible for the Asia under 18 sevens tournament to be held this year.
Last year Naveen Henakankanamge lead the under 18’s to victory in the sevens series winning the Plate title in Hong Kong and the cup championship in Chinese Taipei resulting in an overall win of the series.
The series win meant the Lankans qualified for Youth Commonwealth games this year meeting the likes of Fiji, England and even managing to win over hosts Bahamas.
Progression to the Youth Olympics to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from the 6th to the 18th of October 2018 will be determined on the result of the Asia U18 tournament and all teams will be gunning for their place at the iconic tournament.
Lads from Science College who missed out on the Youth Commonwealth games will surely be hoping to catch the eye of the selectors once again as they hope to make it to the Sri Lankan squad for the Asia tour.
