With an injury ruling the main spinner Wanindu Hasaranga out of the 3rd ODI on Friday, the selectors have added Lakshan as a cover for Hasaranga in case he is deemed unfit for the T20Is.
24-year old Lakshan has been training with the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team squad for the past couple of weeks in Dambulla. As per reliable sources, Lakshan was one of the best bowlers during the intra-squad matches in Dambulla.
Lakshan, who started his domestic career at Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club, is currently representing Sri Lanka Army Sports Club. In 11 T20Is, he has taken only 5 wickets; however in 22 list A matches, Lakshan has picked up 35 wickets at an average of 19.
Last year, Lakshan was a part of the victorious Southern Warriors team along with Dinesh Chandimal, Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga in the Army Commanders League 2020.
The three-match T20I series will be played on 25th, 27th and 29th of July at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.
