The “Milo” Under 14 All Island – 10 a side rugby tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby football Association concluded earlier this evening with a Joe-Pete final taking center stage at the Royal Complex where superlative second half performance by the Peterites ensured their victory as they won the final 14 points to 07.
Cup final St.Peter’s College vs. St. Joseph’s College
Joes kicked off the proceedings in the final and they dominated possession and territory as the Peterites had to defend the strong Joes line as they continued to play attacking rugby with their big made skipper Naveen Marasinghe gaining more yards whenever he got the ball and he scored the first try for the Joes as he powered himself over the Peterites. Rushitha Rodrigo added the extras as Joes went into the half time leading 07 -00.
Peterites didn’t have any opportunities to show their attacking capabilities as they had to do defensive work during the first half. Speedster Dineth Ranasinghe made superb 50 meter dash as went over for the Petes. Vindya De Mel added extra two points to equalize the game at 7 all.
It was fascinating game of rugby which was played at high pace which is rare in junior rugby. Joes made a break through from their own 22 meter line as Peterite defense was caught napping but the skipper Devon Mass and Dineth Ranasinghe made an important tackle. Dineth Ranasinghe turned the ball over and he was unstoppable with his speed as he scored the winning try. Vindya De Mel was spot on with his conversion.
