The United Arab Emirates has been elected the host nation of the 2018 Asia Cup which was originally planned to be hosted by India.

It was earlier speculated that the hosting rights would be given to Sri Lanka but due to the Lankan Premier League (LPL), ACC has decided to move the tournament to UAE instead of Sri Lanka.

The tournament dates are set between September 13th and 28th as of now and the reason for the change of countries has been cited as the critical political situation between Pakistan and India.

“The ACC deliberated on the matter and decided that this was the best way forward,” Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and PCB chairman Najam Sethi was quoted speaking to ESPN cricinfo.

Full members India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are set to feature in this year’s editions while the sixth team will be determined via a playoff that includes UAE, Hong Kong, Nepal, Singapore, Malaysia and Oman.

India will be coming into the tournament as defending champions as they trounced Bangladesh in a closely fought final in 2016, while the tournament was played in the T20 format for the first time after 12 previous occasions where it was 50 over encounters.
