U23 Cricket – Yashoda, Sandun and Hashan shine during the rain-hit weekend

Friday’s heavy downpour was the main reason as none of the penultimate weeks’ matches in the SLC under 23 division one tournament produced outright results. 

Moors Sports Club, Negombo Cricket Club, Nondescript Cricket Club, Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club and Saracens Sports Club recorded first-innings wins with only two days of play possible in the week 6. 

 

Moors vs SSC

Yashoda Lanka starred with the bat in a high-scoring draw at Moors grounds as the hosts’ returned to the top position in the group A points table ahead of Sinhalese Sports Club.

Right-handed Lanka slammed a stunning 113 in just 74 balls as he helped his club overtake SSC with an important first innings win.

Moors – 441/8 in 76.5 overs: Dilshan Ranasinghe 93, Sangeeth Cooray 71, Yasoda Lanka 113, Prashan Rathnayake 72*, Sanka Ramesh 3/97, Ramesh Mendis 3/98.

SSC – 386 all out in 98.5 overs:  Charith Asalanka 56, Ramindu Kumarasinghe 56, Kavinda de Thisera 82, Ramesh Mendis 70,Sangeeth Cooray 3/52, Chamath Gunasinghe 4/113, Sandakan Pathirana 3/124.

Moors (2nd inn) – 83/3 in 16 overs.

 

NCC vs Navy 

Sandun Weerakkody and Sachintha Peiris slammed excellent tons as Nondescript Cricket Club registered a comprehensive first-innings win over Navy Sports Club at NCC grounds.

Skipper Sandun blasted 142 in 107 balls with 15 fours and 4 sixes while young Sachintha took 135 balls for his 129.

NCC – 444/7 declared in 94 overs: Sandun Weerakkody 142, Anuk Fernando 89, Sachintha Pieris 129*, Dinushka Malan 4/21.

Navy – 295 all out in 77.2 overs: Lahiru Jayakody 89, Madura Madusanka 77*, Harith Samarasinghe 2/42, Saranga Rajaguru 3/58.

NCC (2nd inn) – 100 all out in 18.1 overs: Saranga Rajaguru 51, Ashan Ranasinghe 6/35.

 

Moratuwa vs CCC

Only 165 overs were possible on all three days as the match between Moratuwa Sports Club and Colombo Cricket Club ended without a result at De Soysa grounds in Moratuwa.

Former Sri Lanka youth opener, Hashan Dumindu’s unbeaten 305-ball 187 was the biggest highlight in the match. He stroked 15 fours and 2 sixes during his mammoth innings and he carried his bat as well.

CCC – 345 all out in 100.3 overs: Hashan Dumindu 187*, Yashan Samarasinghe 78, Vihanga Kalhara 2/28, Thilan Nimesh 5/128, Malinga De Silva 2/90.

Moratuwa – 208/5 in 65 overs: Lakshina Rodrigo 74*, Nipuna Gamage 42, Woshantha Silva 42, Shaluka Silva 2/62, Dulanjana Senevirathne 2/63.

 

Negombo CC vs SL Air Force

Negombo managed to survive themselves from demotion as they registered a first-innings win in a wooden-spoon battle against Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club at Kadirana.

The Negombo boys led by Shihan Dilasri played brave cricket throughout the match but they were deprived of a well-deserved outright victory. Young Ayana Siriwardana for Airmen captured 7 wickets in the first innings.

Negombo – 156 all out in 47 overs: Praveen Dilanka 24, Shihan Dilasri 24, Ayana Siriwardana 7/72.

Air Force – 126 all out in 57.5 overs: Lahiru Kumara 43, Dinan Fernando 4/29, Nishan Pieris 3/21, Lahiru Wickramasinghe 3/16.

Negombo (2nd inn) – 171/7 declared in 49 overs: Lahiru Wickramasinghe 30, Sandaruwan Rodrigo 82*, Sachika Udara 2/42.

Air Force (2nd inn) – 129/7 in 38 overs: Visal Senanayaka 28*, Dinan Fernando 4/47.

 

Colts vs Saracens

Saracens managed to pull off a close 3-run first-innings win over the star-studded Colts team in their drawn encounter which concluded at Colts grounds.

Saracens – 129 all out in 38 overs: Ishan Nilaksha 42, Dushan Hemantha 29, Ali Khan 3/40, PT Kulathunga 2/40, Sahan Arachchige 4/26.

Colts – 126 all out in 44 overs: Sahan Arachchige 69, Shehan Madushanka 3/56, Chanaka Davinda 4/25, Madawa Nimesh 2/5.

Saracens (2nd inn) – 280/9 in 79 overs: Madawa Nimesh 60, Duleeka Tissakuttige 86*, Ishan Nilaksha 48, Chemila Obeysekara 40*, Chirath Mapatuna 5/85.

 

Tamil Union vs Panadura 

Table leaders, Tamil Union consolidated their pole position in the group B with a first-innings win over Panadura Sports Club at P. Sara Oval grounds.

Leg-spinner Pulina Tharanga shined with the ball while left-hander Imal Liyanage smashed a 178-ball 101 for the hosts.

Panadura – 141 all out in 43 overs: Chamika Fernando 39, Umeshka Morais 23, Pulina Tharanga 5/40, Pramod Liyanagamage 3/23.

Tamil Union – 253 all out in 68.5 overs: Imal Liyanage 101, Isuru Buddika 32, Chamika Fernando 2/39, Lahiru Sanjaya 3/69.
