U23 Cricket – Defending champions, SSC humbled by Moratuwa SC

Moratuwa SC stunned the defending under 23 division one champions, SSC as five matches were worked out on Sunday. Two matches were completed with comprehensive wins for Moratuwa SC and Ragama CC while the other three matches will be ended on Tuesday. 

 

Ragama vs CCC

Off-spinner Koshan Danushka and left-arm spinner Sahan Nanayakkara wrecked through CCC batting as Ragama CC romped to a comfortable innings and 74-run victory at Maitland Crescent. 

Jason Perera’s excellent 240 and Sahan Nanayakkara’s 8-wicket haul were the main highlights for the visitors who ended the game with one session to spare.

Ragama – 499/7 in 126 overs: Jason Perera 240, Shaminda Fernando 74, Janith Liyanage 76, Supeshala Jayathilaka 41, Shaluka Silva 3/121, Yashan Samarasinghe 2/48.

CCC – 206 all out in 57 overs: Hashan Dumindu 37, Geshan Wimaladharma 31, Sahan Nanayakkara 5/84, Janith Liyanage 4/33.

CCC (2nd inn) – 219 all out in 52.5 overs: Thanura Halambage 39, Roshan Anurudda 47, Krishan Weerarathna 34, Koshan Danushka 5/57, Sahan Nanayakkara 3/81.

 

Moratuwa vs SSC 

Irresponsible batting was the main reason for Sinhalese Sports Club’s 89-run defeat at the hands of unknown quantity of Moratuwa Sports Club at Maitland Place. 

Left-arm spinner Thilan Nimesh and all-rounder Nipuna Gamage excelled for the visitors as they registered a historic win over the much-fancied SSC outfit. 

Moratuwa – 249 all out in 67.2 overs: Thilan Nimesh 56, Nipuna Gamage 40, Vidusha Jayasinghe 29, Malinga De Silva 31, Aftab Cader 4/50, Sanka Ramesh 2/30, Ramindu Kumarasinghe 2/33.

SSC – 142 all out in 45.4 overs: Ramesh Mendis 29, Kavindu Kulasekara 27, Charith Asalanka 27, Madawa Fernando 3/47, Vihanga Kalhara 2/60, Thilan NImesh 2/05.

Moratuwa (2nd inn) – 221 all out in 69.5 overs: Nipuna Gamage 41, Anushka Perera 72, Sasindu Ediriweera 33, Sanka Ramesh 5/68, Kavindu Kulasekara 2/13.

SSC (2nd inn) – 239 all out in 68.1 overs: Praveen Fernando 55, Ramesh Mendis 60, Nipuna Gamage 3/24, Thilan Nimesh 2/49. 

 

Colts vs Moors

17 wickets fell on day one as Colts took control of their match against Moors at Colts grounds on Sunday. 

Colts made 209 for 7 in reply to Moors’ 189. For Colts, former Isipathanian wicket-keeper batsman Vishad Randika was unbeaten on 54 while off-spinner Sangeeth Cooray captured all 7 wickets that fell for the hosts.

Moors – 189 all out in 36.3 overs: Imraz Rassi 29, Ishara Mendis 26, Shanuka Dulaj 51, Ali Khan 2/46, Thirath Mapatuna 2/45, Priyamal Perera 2/18, Minhaj Jaleel 2/08.

Colts – 209/7 in 51 overs: Minhaj Jaleel 39, Priyamal Perera 30, Vishad Randika 54*, Sangeeth Cooray 7/74. 

 

Negombo vs NCC

Right-handed Akeel Inham, 19 made a terrific start to his season banging an unbeaten 184 as Negombo pummeled 318 for 5 against NCC at their own grounds.

After winning the toss and electing to field, NCC completely lost the plot as young Negombo CC team made use of the brilliant batting conditions.

Negombo SC – 318/5 in 91 overs: Akeel Inham 184*, Chaturanga Rajapaksha 62*, Lahiru Samarakoon 2/35, Dilshan Kanchana 2/62.

 

Navy vs Tamil Union

Both Lahiru Silva and Lahiru Jayakody slammed elegant half-tons as the Sailors took major honours on day one in their game against Tamil Union at R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday. 

Navy SC – 310/9 in 90 overs: Lahiru Silva 64, Lahiru Jayakody 71, Ashan Ranasinghe 64, Devin Pathmanadan 2/66.
