U23 Cricket – Akila Dhananjaya and Priyamal Perera steer Colts to a massive win

The final week of the group stage in the SLC under23 division one tournament 2016 commenced this weekend with 6 matches being played out in Colombo and its suburbs. 

Two games ended within two days as Colts Cricket Club led by brilliant Akila Dhananjaya and Priyamal Perera trounced Moratuwa Sports Club while Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club crushed Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club on Saturday.

 

Colts vs Moratuwa

The right-arm off-spinner grabbed a 12-wicket match bag while hard-hitting middle-order batsman Priyamal Perera smashed a quick-fire 100 as Colts defeated Moratuwa by an innings and 75 runs at Colts grounds.

The spinner who has represented Sri Lanka in T20 cricket took 6 wickets on each innings to bundle out the visitors to paltry 114 and 102 in respective innings. Former Josephian Vice-captain Priyamal Perera’s attacking 100 helped the hosts post a formidable 291. 

 

Moratuwa – 114 all out in 39.5 overs: Anushka Perera 46, Akila Dhanajaya 6/38, Charith Sudaraka 4/25.

Colts – 291 all out in 62.5 overs: Angelo Jayasinghe 49, Sadeera Samarawickrama 38, Priyamal Perera 100*, Vihanga Kalhara 2/42, Thilan Nimesh 4/100.

Moratuwa (2nd inn) – 102 all out in 26 overs: Woshantha Silva 24, Akila Dhananjaya 5/52, Ali Khan 2/16.

 

SL Ports Authority vs SL Navy

The 19-year old all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga De Silva continued to blossom for Sri Lanka Ports Authority as they beat Sri Lanka Navy by 10 wickets at Welisara.

The right-hander slammed 92 in the first innings and then followed up with a blistering 39 in the second innings to help his team beat a struggling Sailors’ outfit. 

Left-arm spinner Harsha Rajapakshe grabbed five wickets in the first innings while off-spinner, AK Tyron took a five-for in the second. 

 

Navy – 138 all out in 41 overs: Kusal Lakthilina 33*, Harsha Rajapakshe 5/46, Chanuka Dilshan 4/35.

Ports Authority – 324 all out in 76.2 overs: Wanidu Hasaranga 92, Yohan Shanaka 61, Ashan Ranasinghe 5/160.

Navy (2nd inn) – 226 all out in 66 overs: Lahiru Silva 45, Chenutha Wickramasinghe 68, AK Tyron 5/82.

Ports Authority (2nd inn) – 46 for no loss in 3 overs: Wanidu Hasaranga 39*. 

 

The other four matches are scheduled to end on Sunday (20th September).

1. Ragama vs Moors at Thurstan grounds.

2. Tamil Union vs Negombo at P. Sara Oval grounds.

3. Air Force vs Panadura at Katunayake BOI grounds.

4. CCC vs Saracens at Maitland Crescent.
