Schools’ basketball in the island is set to make a long-awaited return with the All Island Under 20 Basketball Championship set to kick off on the 19th of April 2022.
The Sri Lanka Basketball Federation (SLBF) has done a tremendous job in bringing back Sri Lanka basketball back on track starting with the Senior Nationals to the Avant Super Cup and and now Schools Basketball.
The tournament will feature 80 school teams spread across the island with the games to be played in 3 stages. The championship will kick start with the ‘C’ division matches and will move on to ‘A’ division and ‘B’ division respectively.

‘A’ Division
‘A’ division will feature 20 teams in the Boys’ category. The teams will play their group stage matches under 4 groups with the top two teams of each group booking their slots in the quarter finals.
Six teams will be competing in the Girls’ category. The teams have been divided into two groups, with the top two from each moving on to the semis.
The ‘A’ division group stage matches will be played at 5 different venues.

‘B’ Division
A sum of 25 teams will be playing under the ‘B’ division. 16 teams will feature in the Boys’ category, while 9 will feature in Girls’. The boys’ teams are grouped into 4, with the top two teams of each group moving on to the quarter finals.
Similar to the A division, the 9 girls’ teams will be divided into 2 groups, with the top two from each group facing off in the semis.

‘C’ Division
19 school teams will feature in the Boys’ ‘C’ division category. The format will follow that of the ‘A’ and ‘B’ divisions, where the top 2 teams from each group will move to the knockouts.
‘C’ division will feature 13 teams in the Girls’ category, with the same group format and knockout format to be followed.
