Sri Lanka U19 Women faced the New Zealand development Women’s team in the second game of the U19 Women T20 Tri-Series 2024 held in Australia and recorded a thumping win by 69 runs.
Batting first Sri Lanka Women posted 148 off their twenty overs. A lower-order counter punch from Rashmika Sewwandi took Sri Lanka from a rather struggling to a fighting position with her unbeaten 36 off 19 deliveries. At the top of the order Sanjana Kavindi anchored the innings while the wickets were tumbling at the other end, Kavindi’s 30 off 38 set the tone for Rashmika Sewwandi to go berserk at the end of the innings.
In reply, apart from opener Eve Wolland any of the all the other Kiwi batters struggled against the strong Sri Lankan bowling outfit. The Kiwis batters were bowled out for just 79 runs in the 18th over.
The bowling charge was led by Pramudi Methsara who grabbed 3 wickets with just giving away 6 runs. Rashmika Sewwandi had a game to remember as she picked up 2 of the top-order wickets with the new ball just right after her dashing batting display. Chamodi Perera also contributed with the ball with 2 wickets.
Sri Lanka U19 women will meet the Australia U19 women on the 22nd of September for the second game of the Tri-Series.
