A new tournament for the U19 players of the country called ‘Under 19 Super Provincial 50 over Tournament’ is scheduled to be conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket from the 16th July to 23rd July 2019.
The tournament will be played between four participants (Super Provincial Teams): Colombo, Kandy, Galle and Dambulla and will only have a maximum 4 matches per team including 3 round robin matches and a final round.
The matches will be played as day matches at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium and the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
This will be a valuable opportunity for the under-19 players to show their colors at the national level as Sri Lanka on the lookout for the perfect squad for the upcoming U19 Asia Cup and U19 World Cup which will be held in August (in Sri Lanka) and January-2019 (In South Africa) respectively.
Each squad will be consist of around 15 players, making space for 60 youth players from all around the country. The finalized squads have not been released by SLC.
’This tournament will help us unearth young talent in the country, who in turn will get an opportunity to represent the U19 National Team, ‘A’ Team or Emerging Team, thus giving them an ideal path to reach the international stage,’’ said Mr. Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the Winning team, Runner Up, Player of the Match, Best Batsman and Bowler of the tournament and also the Player of the Tournament.
