Kandy U19s and Colombo North U19s registered wins on the opening day of U19 Sri Lanka Youth League 2023.

Kandy registered a comprehensive win over Galle in the 1st match of the tournament played today at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

After being put into bat first by Galle skipper Malsha Tharupathi, Kandy posted a commanding total – 303 on the board thanks to a brilliant century scored by Pulindu Perera.

Opening the batting, Perera blasted 122 runs off 89 balls with 12 fours and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 137.08. In the bowling department, Pathum Malitha was the star performer for Galle as he bagged 3 scalps for 41 runs.

In reply, Galle U19s managed to post only 215 runs, handing an 88-run victory for Kandy U19s. Hiruna Gallage top scored for Galle U19s while Dinuka Thennakoon starred with the ball for Kandy U19s, claiming 3 wickets for 12 runs.

Colombo North recorded a 51-run win over Colombo South in a low-scoring encounter worked off today at Asgiriya International Cricket Stadium.

Colombo North skipper Duvindu Ranatunga opted to bat first after winning the toss, but things didn’t pan out as expected for them as they were restricted to 165.

Sahan Mihira was outstanding with the ball for Colombo South as he managed to claim 3 wickets for 24 runs.

In reply, Colombo South were bowled out for 111 runs as Sri Lanka U19 cap Duvindu Ranatunga ripped through the opposition’s top order, scalping 5 wickets for 27 runs.
