The group stage of the SLSCA Under 19 Division 1 Tournament concluded yesterday (25th March), with 16 teams qualified for the knock-out stage (8 teams each from Tier A & Tier B).

St. Joseph’s College, Colombo (X1), St. Anthony’s College, Katugasthota (X2), Nalanda College, Colombo (Y1), Richmond College, Galle (Y2), Mahanama College, Colombo (Z1), De Mazenod College, Kandana (Z2), St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena (BT 1) and Wesley College, Colombo (BT 2) qualified for the quarter-finals from Tier A.
When deciding the third 2nd best team of Tier A, the average points gained at the end of the first round were calculated for Royal College (10 Points, 5 Matches), Wesley College (10 Points, 4 Matches) and Trinity College (12 Points, 5 Matches).
Accordingly, Wesley College which had the highest average points (2.5 = 10/4) managed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Tier A segment as the third 2nd best team.
St. Peter’s College, Colombo (X1), Maris Stella College, Negombo (X2), Isipathana College, Colombo (Y1), Moratu Maha Vidyalaya (Y2), Thurstan College, Colombo (Z1), St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy (Z2), Lumbini College, Colombo (BT 1) and Mahinda College, Galle (BT 2) qualified for the quarter-finals from Tier B.
The encounter between Moratu Maha Vidyalaya and St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa ended in no result as the pitch prepared for the contest was deemed poor resulting in the points shared by the two schools.

Both Ananda College (-0.238) and defending Tier B champions Mahinda College (0.002) had accumulated equal points at the end of the first round but the latter managed to reach the quarter-finals of Tier B segment as the third 2nd best team based on better net run-rate.
