The U19 Division 1 Limited Overs Tournament kicked off today (07th March), with seven matches being played at several venues across the island.

Sri Lanka’s rising young all-rounder Dunith Wellalage, representing his alma mater St. Joseph’s College, showed his prowess with bat and ball, guiding the Joes to a comprehensive 7-wicket win over St. Sebastian’s College.

Wellalage, who picked up 2 scalps with the ball, top-scored for St. Joseph’s College, aggregating an unbeaten 55 runs off 45 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes.

St. Anthony’s College recorded a massive win against St. Thomas’ College Matara thanks to the batting efforts of Lahiru Abeysinghe (78), Yasiru Gamarachchi (63) and the match-winning bowling performance of Sri Lanka U19 capped Trevin Mathew (4/12).

Sri Lanka U19 capped Raveen De Silva’s all-round brilliance helped Nalanda College defeat Wesley College by 33 runs. De Silva top-scored for the Nalandians, contributing with 66 runs off 48 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate of 137.50 while snaring 2 wickets for 47 runs with the ball.

Pasan Suwahas’ majestic ton powered St. Benedict’s College to a convincing 88-run win over S. Thomas’ College. Suwahas stroked 150 runs off 141 balls with 16 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of 106.38.
