St. Joseph’s College and Richmond College qualified to the Tier ‘A’ Final of the SLSCA U19 Division 1 Cricket Tournament 2021/2022.

St. Joseph’s College vs De Mazenod College

St. Joseph’s College won the toss and opted to field first against De Mazenod College in the first Semi-Final of the SLSCA U19 Division 1 – Tier A Cricket Tournament 2021/2022, played today at Surrey Grounds, Maggona.

De Mazenod College had a terrible time with the bat against a strong Josephian bowling lineup as they were restricted to 138 runs in 38.1 overs. Ashen Silva top-scored with a knock of 56 runs off 87 balls with 5 fours. Muditha Lakshan was the chief demolisher with the ball for the Joes as he bagged 3 scalps for just 8 runs.

It was a walk in the park run chase for the Joes as they crossed the line quite easily with 5 wickets in hand. Hirun Kapurubandara was the top-scorer for St. Joseph’s College as he made an unbeaten 64 runs off 84 balls with 11 fours.

Mahanama College vs Richmond College

Richmond College won the toss and opted to bat first against Mahanama College in the second Semi-Final of the SLSCA U19 Division 1 – Tier A Cricket Tournament 2021/2022, played today at Royal Grounds, Colombo.

The strong Richmond batting lineup were unable to make a good impression with the bat as they made only 202 runs in 49.5 overs. Tharinda Nirmal top-scored with a knock of 59 runs off 110 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Devindu Kekirideniya of Mahanama College was brilliant with the ball in the crucial encounter as he snared 5 wickets for 21 runs in his 10-over spell, which included 5 maidens.

Though a 203-run target look achievable on paper, Mahanama messed things up in the middle, being bowled out for 63 runs and handing a massive 139-run win for Richmond College. Tharindu Nirmal, who impressed with the bat early in the day, showed his skills with the ball taking 4 wickets for 21 runs.
