Seven games of the schools U19 Limited Overs Cricket Tournament 2022/23 were played across the country today (16).
Thomian Mahith Perera struck an unbeaten 85 against Maliyadewa College to earn a win for his team. The senior batter for St. Thomas’ College was outstanding in this low-scoring encounter. With his team only scoring 230 runs – The next best score was the 33 runs from Akash Fernando – Perera’s 85 runs were golden for the Thomians.
After having undone the Kurunegala school for 227 runs, this was a stellar knock from Perera to chase it down after having a faulty start.
Shanikya Deshapriya of Thurstan College was the highest scorer of the day although he ended up on the losing side even after nudging a run more than Perera.
Hareen Achintha of Mahinda College also got a fine fifty (76) in the same game against Thurstan College to take his school to victory.
Thamindu Pradeeptha (68), Denura Demansith (63), Denura Demansith (63), Gayana Weerasinghe (56) and Chamath Gomez (59) also made half-centuries today.
In bowling, Anandian, Ayesh Shashimal shined above the rest. Ananda College was in a tricky situation after being shot out for just 143 runs. Shashimal who is playing his debut season for Ananda College, picked 4 wickets for just 12 runs, bamboozling Dharmapala College and taking Ananda to a dramatic 34-run win.

The Isipathana College all-rounder, Yesith Kalupahana, had a brilliant day in the park picking up 4 wickets for just 20 runs. He was also the highest scorer for Isipathana in this game against St. Joseph Vaz College scoring 30 runs pushing them towards victory.
Sri Lanka U19 cap, Malsha Tharupathi (4/21), Janitha Shehan (4/47) and Duvindu Nishan (4/44) all picked up four wickets each to lead the wickets list for the day.
