Six 2-day matches in the U19 Schools Cricket Tournament kicked off today (27th February) at several venues, while another game ended as a draw in Matara.
The Tier ‘B’ 2-day encounter between St. Servatius’ College & St. Sylvester’s College was held today at Uyanwatta Grounds in Matara.
St. Servatius’ College posted 207 runs for their 1st innings, with 7 batters getting a good start, but unfortunately none of them were able to convert those starts into a big score. Chiran Neththaru (42) was the chief scorer for them, while Nimesha Silva & Kavishka Imesh bagged 4 wickets apiece.
St. Sylvester’s College started off well with Khanka Wickramasinghe scoring a solid 45. At one stage, they were in a strong position as 89/1, but were eventually bowled out for 112 due to a massive collapse, with Viran Chamuditha registering a fifer.
With the 1st innings advantage, St. Servatius’ decided to declare their 2nd innings for 150/6 to set a target of 246 for St. Sylvester’s victory. When the match ended as a draw, St. Sylvester’s were able to get only 39 runs, while they lost 4 wickets too. Viran Chamuditha was the star performer in the match as he finished with figures of 8/48.

An U19 traditional encounter between Royal College & St. Peter’s College commenced today at St. Peter’s College Grounds in Colombo.
The Peterites decided to bowl first after having won the toss, and their new-ball bowlers bowled exceptionally well as they reduced the Royals for 42/4 inside the first 18 overs. However, Skipper Dasis Manchanayake played a counterattacking knock of 101-ball 93, while Sandesh Ramanayake scored a valuable fifty to help the Royals to post 241.
The Peterite openers got to an excellent start as they were at 72/0, with Oveen Salgadu unbeaten on 45. In the meantime, the stumps were called on day 1.
