Richmond College, Galle qualified for the final of the U19 Schools Division 1 Tier A Limited Overs Tournament as they defeated St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena in the Semi-Final encounter played yesterday (24th November) at Colombo.
Batting first, Richmond College managed to post a competitive 234 runs on the board thanks to excellent half-centuries scored by Janeth Kaushal (65) and Malsha Tharupathi (50). Vihara Aththanayake was the pick of the bowlers for the Bens as he picked up 4 wickets for 55 runs.
Chasing 235 runs to win, opener Viduneth Wilson almost carried his side St. Benedict’s College to victory with a magnificent knock of 93 runs. Sri Lanka U19 cap Tharupathi came up with an impressive bowling performance taking 3 wickets for 46 runs which helped the boys from Southern clinched a 12-run win to secure their place in the final.
Richmond College continued their unbeaten run in the tournament and will advance to the final of U19 Limited Overs Tournament for the 2nd consecutive time.
