Six 2-day encounters of U19 Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament were played today (07th January) at several venues across the island.
The traditional encounter between Royal College and St. Anthony’s College ended in a draw today at Royal College Grounds in Colombo. After being 73/1 at stumps on day one, St. Anthony’s College went on to post 344/8 for their first innings before making the declaration.
Mohomed Aaqil and Charuka Ekanayake starred with the bat for the visitors, scoring half-centuries. The hosts began their 2nd innings 58 runs behind, and posted 70/3 at the close of play on day two.
S.Thomas’ College managed to take honors in the drawn traditional encounter against St. Benedict’s College, which ended today at S. Thomas’ College Grounds in Mount Lavinia.
Having restricted the visitors to just 104 runs, the Thomians posted 205/8 before declaring their first innings. Thisen Eheliyagoda and Romesh Mendis were the chief scorers for the hosts as they brought up classy half-centuries.
Having failed miserably with the bat in the first innings, the visitors were unable to display an improved effort in their 2nd essay as they faltered once more, being restricted to 107/9 at the close of play on day two.
Mahanama College showcased a brilliant batting display against Zahira College in their traditional encounter which ended in a draw today at Zahira College Grounds.
After been put into bat first, the visitors put on a massive total on the board for their first innings. Anjala Bandara’s mammoth ton and Sachira Weliwatta’s classy century headlined Mahanama College’s brilliant batting effort.
Even with the ball, the visitors were outstanding as they restricted the home side to 189/9 at the end of second day’s play.
