Five 2-day encounters of the U19 Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament were played today (04th January) at several venues across the island.
Royal College claimed the first innings points against Gurukula College in their Tier ‘A’ two-day encounter which ended in a draw today at Royal College Grounds in Colombo. In reply to Royal College’s 378, Gurukula College posted 299 runs for their first innings.
Mohomad Mursad and Wageesha Amantha stroked half-centuries for the boys from Kelaniya. Nethwin Dharmarathne was the star performer with the ball for the hosts as he bagged 5 wickets for 70 runs.
With a 79-run first innings lead, Royal College began their 2nd innings and posted 172/7 at the close of play on day two. The skipper Manchanayake who stroked a brilliant double century in the first innings, notched up another impressive half-century in their 2nd essay with the bat.

The traditional encounter between Nalanda College and Mahinda College ended in a draw today at Nalanda College Grounds. After being 70/1 at stumps on day one, the visitors lost the remaining 9 wickets for just 145 runs being bowled out for 215 for their first innings.
Savidya Ranmina was the chief contributor with the bat for the boys from Galle as he made an unbeaten 70 runs while Osanda Pamuditha starred with the ball for the hosts taking 5 wickets for 51 runs. After a poor batting display in the first innings, Nalanda College once again faltered with the bat as they posted only 102 runs for the loss of 7 wickets at the close of play on day two.
St. Benedict’s College registered innings win over St. Anne’s College in their Tier ‘A’ two-day encounter ended today at St. Benedict’s College Grounds. After being 62/4 at stumps on day one, the visitors were bowled out for 150 runs for their first innings in the morning session on day two.
Mevan Dissanayake was the chief wrecker with the ball as he bagged 5 wickets for 33 runs for the hosts. St. Anne’s batters were asked to follow on and their 2nd innings batting was even more disastrous as they were bundled out for a paltry score of 75 runs.
Chamath Chathurya was the pick of the bowlers for Bens this time as he snared 5 wickets for 12 runs. Dissanayake who picked up 5-fer in the 1st innings, claimed 3 more wickets in the 2nd innings taking his match tally to 8 wickets for 56 runs.
