The much-awaited schools first XI cricket tournament is set to get underway by the first week of March as a limited overs tournament for all 3 divisions.

This year too, there will be two tiers in each of the divisions to ensure the competitiveness of the tournament. In Divisions 1 and 2, both Tier ‘A’ and ‘B’ will consist of 18 teams each while Division 3 will have a broader tournament.

The following are the teams that will participate in the U19 Schools Cricket Tournament 2022 in Divisions 1 and 2.

The qualification process of the tournament in divisions 1 and 2 are as follows,

  • The top two teams in each group will qualify for the knock-out rounds.
  • Along with those 6 teams, the two best 3rd place teams in the 3 groups will also qualify for the quarter-finals.
  • The winners of the quarter-final matches will advance to the semi-finals and finals subsequently.

There will not be any promotion or demotion in this year too owing to the pandemic situation.

Each team will play against every other opponent in the group making it 5 matches per team in the first round. Those fixtures should be completed by the 25th of March.

The Schools Cricket Association has given time for the schools till 29th March to play the Quarter-final matches while the Semi-finals will be played by the 3rd of April.

The finals of Division 1 Tier A is scheduled to be played on or before 10th April, while Tier B to be played on or before 9th of April.

The Tier A final of Division 2 will take place on or before the 8th of April and the Tier B final will happen on or before the 7th of April.

In Division 3 Tier A, 57 teams are competing in 10 groups. Top 32 teams will qualify for the knock-out round. The tournament will then be reduced to a 16-team pre-quarter-finals, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
